We recently attended a function with NYSORVA, there were some very interesting discussions going around. They are asking for the help of all riders, clubs and organizations. They want to be the voice of the riders to the government in the State of NY. They have connections to the right people and the people running the show know what they are doing. Their goal is to get trails opened in this state, so your registration money isn't going for nothing.
We no longer have the luxury of sitting back and doing nothing. Because, if we do nothing, we will get nothing. Eventually you won't even be able to legally ride your ATV in your yard in this State. Stand up now and be counted, tell your politicians that we want to use our ATVs in our State, that we deserve to be provided trails with the money they take from us for registration, that we will NOT go away quietly, and we will remember during the elections, the politicians that helped, or hindered our cause. This is what this country is all about. Use your rights before you lose them. Don't think that your vote or your letter or your signature on a petition doesn't count. MAKE IT COUNT. It certainly can't count if you don't use it.
Please join an organization or two, or four or more if you like. NYSORVA is trying to move forward and organize a push for us. Support them! Contact them, ask them how to get to your politicians.
Don't just shake your head and walk away. They cannot do this without our help and support.

Thank you.

Just the facts!

Recently there have been some rumors going around about our proposal to the APA. This should set them straight.

ATV Riding Area Proposed for South Johnsburg Road
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and our proposed project to you. My name is Karen Mohring. My husband Richard and I purchased 737 acres of land in Johnsburg & Thurman NY. It is our intention to develop and operate a private camping, ATV/MX riding and educational facility.
Our proposal includes;
> Approximately 60 camper sites (40 with hook-ups)
> Approximately 85 tent camp sites
> An office with bathhouse, game room and indoor pool for our guests
> Parking for approximately 100 non-camping vehicles
> Three ATV practice tracks - beginner, intermediate & advanced
> Three MX practice tracks - beginner, intermediate & advanced
> An integrated flat oval and drag strip for ATV's & MX
> Approximately thirty miles of trails (all are existing skidder roads)
> A maintenance shop for our equipment
> Six rental cabins
> Four single family ranch houses for our residences
This is intended to be not only family owned and operated, but family oriented as well.

It is our objective to not only provide a riding area for people, but also to educate them on the impact their riding can, and does, have on the environment. We would also like them to see what a wetland is and learn why they should stay out of and away from them. They will be able to see firsthand the type of erosion control methods that need to be used to halt and reverse the deterioration of the trails. They will be shown what is involved in maintaining the tracks and trails used for riding and what they can do differently to help in this endeavor. Here, they can also be taught the importance of staying on the trails designated for ATV/MX use and why some areas MUST be left un-ridden.

In order to ensure that our rules and regulations are followed, and that our guests stay where they belong, we will need to hire 20-25 employees to help us, a positive economic benefit to the local and regional economy.

We do not plan to sell any of the products that our customers will need for their day, weekend or even week of riding, such as gas, groceries, machine parts and gear, camping supplies, etc. These items will all have to be supplied by the local area businesses, along with other forms of entertainment and recreation, dining out, etc.

It is also our objective to bring outside tourists into this area. An ATV economic impact study done for the Tug Hill Region of NY state, released in January of 2006, lists the total economic impact from ATV activity at $35 million dollars per year. Between the direct employment created and the infusion of cash into the surrounding communities, this Project is anticipated to result in significant positive economic benefits.

Right now we are in the process of completing the various studies that the Adirondack Park Agency has requested. When these are complete, we will be resubmitting our application to them for their review.

If you would like to show your support for our project, please feel free to sign our petition. Just follow the link for our petition page on our website.

In rebuttal to the fictitious editorial, Bill Parker had this to say;
To the Editor,
Apparently you have read the erroneous statements from the Residents Committee to Protect the Adirondacks (RCPA), but haven't seen the real proposal so you've repeated their errors. You don't have the details on the nature of the project. Here are a few, but not all.
This will not be a new use of/in the Adirondack Park. People are riding in the park now. It will be a continuing use that's legal in a controlled, private, isolated area.
No auto racing was ever considered or proposed! your reference to "NASCAR-like complex" is ridiculous. We're not cutting 30 miles of new trails; they're already there and there are ways to control erosion on the trails that need it.
ATV/dirtbikes produced in recent years came with spark arrestors as standard equipment and every machine will be sound tested. High Peaks Region???
The trails will be monitored by our trail wardens during open times, and there are plenty of downed trees (deadfall) that will be used to prevent travel off-trail/property. Tracks will have spotters to control the activity there.
If you want economic data, check out the Tug Hill ATV data released in January 2006, also we'll need to hire 20-25 paid/taxed employees.
You didn't mention some important things about the project. It will be a family oriented camping/riding area with an emphasis on educating riders, based on the "Tread Lightly!" concept. We intend to have an environmental interpretive sign program to explain features the riders will see while on the trails. I worked for 4 years at another riding area and wildlife was in abundance, injuries happened occasionally (most minor), no forest fires were ever started. We will live onsite fulltime and want it to be a nice friendly place.
In conclusion, get some details before condemning the project as a "bad fit".
